Castiglion Fiorentino Tuscany Castiglion Fiorentino is a village with Roman origins. It is a hill town which looks out over the Valle di Chiana on the one side and Valle di Chio on the other. Castiglion Fiorentino has a preseved medieval center, which is dominated by the Cassero fortress. The historic center is made up of noble buildings: The Gothic church of San Francesco, the Collegiata, and the Chiesa del Gesu, all rich with precious works of art. A must see is the Loggiata Vasariano, from the XVI century; the Castello di Montecchio, built in the XIII century with it’s castle walls intact; and the Piazzle del Cassero, where recent archeological digs have brought to light some remains of an Estrucan wall (IV century a.C.) The Chiesa di San Angelo boasts an artistic hertitage of high quality: standing out is the medieval gold jewelry and the works of Bartolomeo della Gatta and Taddeo Gaddi. The advantageous position of Castiglion Fiorentino makes it easily accessible to many important cities of art and culture in Tuscany and Umbria.
